In two previous posts, I shared how to estimate Purchased Equipment Cost (PEC) of flare system and how to estimate the installation cost of flare system. In this post, I want to share how to estimate total capital cost or total investment cost of flare system.
The overall total investment cost of flare system is illustrated below.

The component of total investment cost is tabulated below.

By using those previous two post, I want to share an example on how to estimate total capital investment of flare system.
Example
Flare data:
- Height of flare stack = 90 ft
- Diameter of flare stack = 8 in
- Type of flare = guy-supported
The monitoring system consists of:
- Pilot flame monitor
- Heat content
- Flow rate monitor
- Enhanced steam control monitor
Flare knock-out drum data:
- Drum diameter = 42 in
- Drum thickness = 0.37 in
- Drum height = 126 in
Transport piping data:
- Transport piping diameter = 8 in (the same as diameter of flare stack)
- Length of transport piping = 200 ft
Based on calculations, this is the summary of total capital investment of flare system. Please noted that the basis is 2017 USD.

As promised, I will share the free spreadsheet of total capital investment estimation of flare system. You can download it here.
