Today I stumbled upon Investment Catalog while searching for certain information. The catalog was issued by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Republic of Indonesia. And guess what? I found something interesting: potential geothermal project in Indonesia.
The catalog was actually 2017 version. However, I think it is still quite relevant.
For you, who are consultant like me, EPC contractors, vendors, or licensors, you may be interested on this information. You can download the publication to read detail information about those projects. In this post, I want to share you potential geothermal project in Indonesia and its status based on publication on media.
There are six potential geothermal projects in Indonesia. Those are geothermal project in Gunung Galunggung , Gunung Hamiding, Gunung Wilis, Gunung Simbolon Samosir, Graho Nyabu, and Gunung Geureudong. Some of the name are familiar for me.
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Gunung Galunggung
WKP Gunung Galunggung is located in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java Province. The proposed area is 57,330 ha. Potential of WKP Gunung Galunggung is 130 MWe and development plant is 110 MW. Its reservoir temperature is around 250-300oC. The highest benchmark price is 15.5 US cent/kWh [1]. Target commercial operation date of this potential project is 2024.
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Gunung Hamiding
WKP Gunung Hamiding is located in North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. The proposed total area is 42,100 ha. Potential of WKP Gunung Hamiding is 265 MWe and development plant is 20 MW.
WKP Gunung Hamiding systems are two phase systems that has a neutral pH and NCG (non condensable gas) is less than 0.2.
PT Star Energy Geothermal Indonesia has been shortlisted to develop WKP Gunung Hamiding as per news at 2016 [2].
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Gunung Wilis
WKP Gunung Wilis is located in Nganjuk Regency, East Java Province. The proposed total area is 20,840 ha. Resource hypothesis of WKP Guning Wilis is 55 MWe, reserves is 92 MWe and development plant is 20 MW (2x 10 MW). Its reservoir temperature is around 200oC. Its highest benchmark price is 15.9 US cent/kWh [1]. Target of commercial operation date of this potential project is 2025.
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Gunung Simbolon Samosir
WKP Simbolon Samosir is located in Samosir Regency, North Sumatera Province. Its reserve is 150 MWe and development plan is 110 MW.
China power plant company, Kaishan, under its parent company KS Orka, cooperated with PT Optima Nusantara Energi to develop WKP Gunung Simbolon Samosir [3].
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Graho Nyabu
WKP Graho Nyabu is located in Merangin regency, Jambi Province. Total area is 109,000 ha. Its potential reserves is 200 MWe and development plan is 110 MW. Its reservoir temperature is around 236oC. The highest benchmark price is 15.9 US cent/kWh [1]. Its commercial operation date is estimated at 2024.
Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the largest geothermal producer in Philipines, will soon start development of WKP Graho Nyabu. The investment of this project is around US$ 10.05 million.
Last September, EDC conducted survey of construction access. If every activity is going as expected, drilling will be performed next 18-24 months [4].
Potential Geothermal Project in WKP Gunung Geureudong
WKP Guning Geureudong is located in Kabupaten Bener Meriah, Aceh Province. Total area is 97,440 ha. Its reserves is 160 MWe and development plan is 55 MW. Its reservoir temperature is around 205-225oC.
Turkish geothermal energy, Hitay Holding, expressed its seriousness in developing Gunung Geureudong geothermal project. Estimated investment of this project is US$ 1 billion.
